Prince Edward County (known locally as 'The County') is a large peninsula on the North East shore of Lake Ontario. It measures 50 Km. (32 mi.) from East to West and varies from 3-32 Km. (2-20 mi.) from North to South. It is just South of the main East-West corridor (Hwy 401) between Toronto and Montreal. The peninsula was made an island by the construction of the Murray Canal in the late 1880's. The County is often referred to as 'Quinte's Isle' reflecting its island nature. Easy access is offered by 4 bridges and one Ferry. The area has a population of approximately 25,000 and 500 Km. (312 mi.) of waterfront.

The County is well known for its 3 Km. sand beach at the Sand Banks Provincial Park. Fishing, sailing, biking & birding are important activities to both visitors and locals alike.
