The Industrial, Commercial & Institutional sector is comprised of
everything that is not considered a household. Group homes and care facilities are
considered IC&I, but not apartment buildings which are considered to be households.
What is our objective for the
IC&I sector?
- To maximize the diversion of waste from landfill.
- To achieve this diversion in the most economical manner.
- To ensure all hazardous materials are disposed of in a safe and responsible manner.
How
Are We Doing?
- In the seven years since the Quinte Regional Recycling facility opened in September of
1990, the IC&I sector has recycled 27,927 tonnes of waste material through our
plant. Check out our Recycling Statistics.
- We estimate that another 25,000 - 30,000 tonnes of waste material has been diverted from
landfill through innovative waste reduction efforts by private recycling operators
and haulers. Click here to find out Who's Who.
- We estimate that well over 100 jobs have been created in Centre & South Hastings
because of the waste reduction philosophy promoted by our programs.
- Of the 3,300 businesses operating in our region, more than 80% are practicing good waste reduction methods and are participating in recycling.
- Most companies who have implemented waste reduction and recycling
programs have seen a reduction in their waste related costs. (Sometimes a very
substantial reduction).
- We have successfully found uses for many unusual waste items such as: inks, glue,
cardboard, tarps, barrels, pails, skids, rope, plastic items, glass, and various types of
packaging. This type of material exchange has saved both the
disposer and the reuser thousands of dollars.
- Hazardous Waste in limited quantities from IC&I sources can
also be handled by the Waste Services Board.
