Northern Lights can be used to paint just about anything and no one knows this better than Jim Norman, one of North America's most gifted musicians. Jim not only painted his car using Northern Lights, he painted his monster drum kit, his 3000 sq ft studio and his Kef Reference Speakers. Here are some of Jim's comments. "I've used the (Northern) Light Product in the paint in my loft, inside my drums, under the carpet I use for touring, my Kef Reference Speakers and recently in the paint of a Saab 9000 spg."

Jim in his painted Saab 9000spg. "To refer to the musical application, as applied inside 8 5plyMaple Toms, and three of fiberglass, it would be to describe a resonance of the note, (people have to be reminded, yes, drums have notes). The delay of the note that a drum is tuned to, hangs in the air longer, and with notes that are created from a rim shot, (a staccato accent involving the metal rim of the drum in combination with the membrane), the "crack" is more percussive. This means that my instrument is more"musical" and effortless to play. The horn like principle of my Bass drums, which projects the bass notes into the room, is a warmer tone. Overall a boost in warmth and musicality, terms not usually applied to percussion instruments, and a move in the direction in validating this twentieth century instrument, the trap, (contraption), set of drums

This has coincided with a new technology applied to the drum membrane, one which has taken the plastic property and makes it more calf skin like, as it was in the beginning. I would like to experiment with coating both sides, (or one), of an even thinner bottom membrane,(more resonance again), than I'm using now, and see what happens to the sound then. I will keep you posted. Jim"
Hi, Just a quick note to coment on the "Northern Lights" product. It is almost 2 1/2 years since we painted the bathroom in our house using this product in the paint. I have not yet seen one speck of mildew in the bathroom. I'm quite impressed! Thanks! Candie Brubacher (Penguin Pole Inc.)
