Who is Barb Dolan?
Sister Barb Dolan
CEP Local 30-O

"Unionists cannot leave politics alone
because politicians cannot leave unions alone."
Only through activisim can we effect change.  We must fight the neo-conservative agendas.  Workers must unite, we must unite and support the New Democrats the one political party that most closely share labour's vision of a just society.  We must organize, we must educate and we must communicate  with our members, other like minded individuals and
WE MUST UNITE TO FIGHT THE RIGHT.
CEP Constitution Preamble
It shall be the further object of this Union to secure legislation safeguarding and promoting economic security and the social welfare of all workers, and to remain vigilant in the interest of preserving and extending civil rights and liberties within a free and democratic society.

We must continue the fight against
   the neo-conservative attack on workers.

Barb is a labour activist and a proud member of CEP, a member of Local 30-O.  Her activism began with CWC as a part time worker for Bell Canada.

Barb has held a number of executive positions with her local, and is currently the Vice-President / Chief Steward for Operator Services.  Today, after 19 and a half years, of activism with her local, her union CEP, the New Democrats and the CLC.   Barb will see this come to a close the end of 1999.  The Operator Services office in Belleville, will be closing and there will be NO OPERATORS left in CEP Local 30-O because of the vicious corporate attack of Bell Canada.  20 years ago CWC organized the telephone operators at Bell Canada, our first strike against Bell Canada was in 1979 our last strike against Bell Canada was in 1999.

Over the years she has been involved in a number of labour initiatives.  She can recall an OTC where as delegates we were told to become politically active and voice our concerns about Legislative initiatives.

This activism has taken her to many areas.  Only through political activism can labour's vision of social and economic justice be realized.  We cannot sit back and wait for someone else to act for us - we must be willing to act on what we believe.

This political activism lead her to a leave of absence and a position as political staff at the Ministry of Labour during the period that the NDP formed government in Ontario.

Barb ran provincially for the NDP in the 1995 general
election.  In 1997, she ran federally for the New Democrats.

A Labour College of Canada Graduate, Class of '98.  An Instructor for the Canadian Labour Congress, Executive Member ONDP Women's Committee, Ontario Representative Federal Council and campaign worker for the NDP and has worked on a number of campaigns across Canada.  The most recent campaign in Sudbury for Brother Chislett.
