Prince Edward County, bounded by Lake Ontario and the Bay of Quinte, is a mostly rural area of just over 23,000 residents. Historically, agriculture and farming were the major occupations, with several harbours around the County ensuring shipping and local industries offering canning, cheese making, etc. Nowadays, some "high tech" industry is making an appearance, the County offers a wide range of leisure and recreational activities, but farming remains at the heart of the County. Highway 401 has replaced the Lake Schooners and provides good access to major markets in Canada and the United States.
