WHO ARE THE BAY OF QUINTE AEROMODELLERS ?

BQAC members are a diversified group of aviation enthusiasts who embrace all aspects of aeromodelling.

The club has some of the finest scale model builders whose craftsmanship falls into the scale master classification.

Although few of the members show their flying and building skills beyond the club's grass field , they  put on demonstrations of some of the finest scale and aerobatics you will see anywhere.

The club has developed an excellent wings program to  instruct  new RC model enthusiasts in the skills needed to  build and fly radio controlled model aircraft.

There is a growing number of helicopter flyers in the club who are able to put on exciting displays of low level precision flying.

The club’s only open event is  the annual  Jet  Rally.

Bay of Quinte Aeromodellers Club

The Bay of Quinte Aeromodellers Club (BQAC)  is more than 50 years old but very few records were kept in the early years. The MAAC Charter was issued in the mid 70s.

BQAC is located in the Belleville area close toCFB Trenton, Canada's largest Air Force military establishment. The club is made up of  over  80 members with one interest; to build and fly radio controlled models. Everything from old timers to hot jets are flown by club members. Sport models, pylon racers, aerobatics and giant scale models, electric sailplanes, gliders and helicopters all can be seen flying at the club's grass flying field off Victoria Road in Ameliasburgh Twp. in the Province of Ontario,Canada.   GPS location 44.05.15N  077.25.24W

Mountain View Airport (a WW 2 flying field now used for aircraft storage, military exercises and Air Cadet Flying Training Program) with 5000ft paved runways is available for the club use when military exercises are not taking place. Open spaces, paved runways and easy access make it a perfect site for flying radio controlled model jet aircraft.   GPS location44.04.18N  077.20.18W

In the early 80s experimentation by modellers, many of whom where Canadians, led to the development of the ducted fan propulsion system using a modified 2 stroke model engine to provide thrust for propulsion of model jet aircraft. Mountain View was the ideal site not only to test these models but to demonstrate to RC modellers the realistic flight characteristics of jet models and the skill of the flyers. These Jet model aircraft were called fan jets. Now, many of the models are powered by real miniature gas turbine jet engines. These turbine powered engines sound and perform just like their big brothers.

In 1986 the first "FAN JET Rally" was sponsored by the Bay of Quinte Aeromodellers. This world class event was the longest running Annual Jet Rally at the same location in North America.

Each year world class flyers with their jet models come from Canada and United States to The Jet Rally and show their skills in designing, building and flying. These model aircraft hobby enthusiasts put on an unbelievable display for the many spectators that come to see models, of aircraft they will probably never see in real life, perform breath taking aerobatics and low level high speed passes over the runway. They also have the opportunity to walk through the pits to see the meticulous craftsmanship of the models and to talk to the flyers.

Each year, after the Jet Rally, the Bay of Quinte Aeromodellers give size able donations to organizations in the local area.

Model aircraft clubs, like the Bay of Quinte Aeromodellers, give an opportunity for aviation enthusiasts to see both static and flying displays of aircraft they only read about. The club members, building and flying their models, are preserving much of our flying heritage.

However the bottom line for these modellers is-  "just living out every persons dream of flying."

The Bay of Quinte Jet Rally flew, for the last time, in 2007.

The club regrets that the event will no longer be held and

we thank all the loyal participants and spectators that supported the rally over the past 20 plus years.
